Since its inaugural exhibition in 2013, the “PATinKyoto Print Art Triennale” has continued to evolve, with subsequent editions in 2016 and 2022. The rapidly changing global situation has significantly impacted not only politics and economics but also the arts. Advanced digital technologies continuously transform image replication and printing techniques, while discussions around the intervention of NFTs and generative AI in artworks continue to unfold.
Today’s contemporary printmaking stands out as a rich field of expression, spanning from traditional printmaking techniques to spatial expressions through photography and video.
The 4th PATinKyotoPrintArt Triennale 2025 will introduce the works of 17 artists (including one artist group) who have confronted these changing global circumstances with sincerity, integrating a variety of media into their creative practices. With the recommendation of multiple commissioners and the provision of a large exhibition space as the two pillars of its planning, the event aims to showcase the richness of contemporary printmaking expressions and Japan’s traditional printmaking culture from the cultural and artistic city of Kyoto to the world.
